Basic Thing to Know About Amplifier

November 14, 2007

Amplifier is an electronic device which increases the sound effect of an electronic unit with speakers. Before you purchase an amplifier take time to think over the different kinds and feature available in an amplifier. Here are few tips to help you to select the right kind of amplifier for the sound you need. First you must know that sound comes out of an amp due to the chain of sound. You will achieve effective sound only if the links provided in chain of sound are equally strong. When you go to a store to purchase an amplifier see if your selected amplifier has all the features in it.

Amplifier’s features

•  Input feature available in an amplifier is used to connect the cables
of guitar.
•  Amplifier has power button to turn it off and turn on.
•   Master volume supports the sound in amplifier.
•  Amplifier has speaker or speaker out feature from where the sound comes
out.

Links of the Chain of sound

•  Amplified sound of an instrument is determined by its accurate timing. Clean
intonation, optimal handling, and balanced paying technique which come from
the guitarist.
•  Amplifier will not improve its sound, if the guitar is poorly stringed.
•  Pickup is the next link of the chain of sound. This is to check if the amplifier connected guitar can produce the original tone of a guitar.
•  An amplifier has other stage which contributes their parts to the sound such as preamp, effect loop, speakers, equalizer and power amps.

When you buy an amplifier consider the size and its wattage. If you choose high wattage, it will be difficult to carry if the size of the amplifier is too large. For this reason you may have to buy a smaller and weaker amplifier.

The size of an amplifier depends on your trip. In case of wattage, remember
that doubling the wattage only produces maximum volume. Wattage increased in
10db will perceive as doubling the volume. A good comparison with Vox DA5, double
wattage, speaker configuration and DA10 for double wattage sound.
